360 Video/Virtual Reality Workshop

Due to popular demand, we're adding a second workshop on Thursday!

Learn how to capture 360 video/ live action VR at one of the media industry's most renowned events.

We are proud to bring you an extensive, end-to-end workflow course in 360 video production. This is an opportunity for you to develop skills and network in an intimate environment with media professionals from around the globe. The workshop will be lead by VR pioneers 360RIZE and their CEO Michael Kintner and post-production specialist Matt Sheils.

Students will learn about each phase in the live action VR pipeline including capturing 360 video with multiple rigs, importing and managing files, stitching video, and other post-production tools. Attendees will receive free exhibits passes for both days of the expo with the purchase of a workshop ticket and also receive a code to download 360CamMan v2 ($225 value). Attendees will also receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.

The workshop will be held at NAB Show New York. Breakfast and snacks will be provided.

Opening Remarks and Equipment Overview

9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Opening discussion about 360 video shooting & VR. Keynote & video presentation led by 360RIZE CEO Michael Kintner.

  • Purpose: This is meant to level everyone's understanding of the basics.

Introduction to various monoscopic and stereoscopic 360 video rigs.

  • Purpose: This will provide detailed information on which rig to use for various shooting scenarios and the advantages of different configurations.

Shooting Exercises – Hands-on

10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Students break up into groups and shoot with a provided rig, learning about different camera mounting options (static camera, tripod, and monopod) and experimenting with subject movement from a near, mid & far point from the camera system.

  • Purpose: This will allow for experience with handling, setting up, and maneuvering the rigs. Students will learn subject-to-distance limitations, threshold for camera movement, and potential parallax problems inherent to 360 live action videography.

Break for Lunch and Networking

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Introduction to 360CamMan Media Management Software

12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Everyone will congregate for this part to watch how to import, analyze and duplicate data using CamMan.

  • Purpose: Demonstrate software for importing data from microSD cards and managing multiple files, which helps to determine validity of takes and anticipate stitching problems.

Stitching and Post Production Workflow

1:30 – 3 p.m.

Everyone will learn how to import media into stitching software, use stitching templates, adjust camera positions and render a "quick"stitch. Everyone will then begin to refine seams and render a "fine" stitch.

  • Purpose: Learn to stitch.
